Do you think we've gone overboard!? The monogrammed blankets came from my niece.
On a Friday we found a mama cat killed by a car in front of our building. The next Monday, Kristina heard kitten meowing in the back of our parking lot. They let her pick them up. She took them home, fed and bathed them. On Tuesday Paulette took them to the vet. They were about 6 weeks old and malnourished, of course. They have lived with Paulette since then. Misty is the gray girl and Shadow is the black boy.
To tame feral cats, you should hold them or so Paulette’s son, Adam, told her. So every night she holds each one for at least one hour. Now Shadow purrs when he sees her. Guess this is working.
The kittens spent the first few weeks in a box in my bathtub. Our bookkeeper recommended it and it worked until I saw Misty walking along the edge of the tub. So now they have the whole bathroom along with a small cat tree. They seem to love it.
The kittens need more room so I’ve opened the doors to my bedroom. They quickly found snuggling in my bed was nice. Adam bought and installed a hanging bed that goes on the glass door. The kittens hang out with Belle, my Aussie who is NOT impressed with the kittens.
While Belle isn’t in love with the kittens, she will go nose to nose with them. And they do that with each other. Misty loves to walk under Belle but she isn’t having it. And why do the kittens love to get among the hangers in my closet?
The kittens have the run of the house! Of course, they needed a taller cat tree (it’s on the left). But they are also climbing as high as they can. Misty seemed to wonder just how she was going to get down from there (by backing up slowly!). The last photo is of the babies as they look now. Still identical tuxedo cats in gray and black and still oh so sweet even at 4am when they insist on being petted! I’ve so glad Kristina rescued them.
