Copying and Reproducing
The official word is this: Our designs may not be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form or by any means electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording or otherwise without written permission in accordance with the Copyright Act. What does this mean? Here’s an example: Its fine to make a color copy of an album page to send to a magazine for contest submission; its not okay to scan a sheet of 12”x12” paper and make copies to distribute to your friends.
Project Ideas
All projects designed for Hot Off The Press by Hot Off The Press staff are copyrighted; however, you may recreate the projects for your personal use or to sell for pin money. This use has been surpassed when the designs are made by employees or sold through commercial outlets. They are not for commercial reproduction.
For example, you can recreate a beaded necklace project from an idea book to sell at a craft market or fundraiser, but you cannot sell it through a retail outlet or hire employees to mass-produce the piece.
Using Papers and Embellishments
Many people want to know if they can buy our papers and make cards, journals or other projects to sell. Yes, as long as each piece of paper, embellishment or stamp set is purchased.
For example, you may use our patterned papers, embellishments, stamps and surfaces to create cards, scrapbook pages and other craft projects of your own design to sell, as long as you have purchased each supply used.
Submitting Projects to Magazines
Please feel free to use Hot Off The Press products to create original projects for submission to magazines. We ask that you include written credit to Hot Off The Press for supplies used. For questions on magazine submissions, please contact Debbie, at [email protected].
Reprinting Articles and Projects
Projects and articles, whether from idea books or our website, may not be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form or by any means electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording or otherwise without written permission in accordance with the Copyright Act.

Why is all this important?
So, why cant you just make a photocopy of that paper design to give your friend? Well, it’s against the law, for one thing. But more important, it takes away from the talented project designers, graphic designers, editors, writers and printers who created it. Thank you for being considerate of their time and talents!
