Exploding Box—Festive Birthday
Instructions:
1. For the box: Follow the package directions to remove box components, one of each size, from the backing. Use the bone folder to firmly crease all the scores. Remove one of each size square panel from the backing—these will be used as patterns.
2. For the large box inside: Using the large blank square pattern, trace and cut four large squares from the Meadow Blooms patterned cardstock (I used two green, one yellow, and one pink patterned cardstocks). Place green straight line Dazzles™ near the upper edge of each, trimming the excess. Glue the cardstocks centered on the inside panels of the box. Trace and cut a large square from flower sprigs cardstock and glue it centered on the middle inside panel.
3. On one green panel, glue “you are the best” cutout near the upper edge and foam tape the dragonfly circle cutout below it. Die cut one openwork small butterfly each from blueberry and pastel pink Mirri. Die cut the small solid butterfly twice from vellum, then glue the openwork butterflies to the vellum butterflies. Glue one to the yellow and one to the pink panel.
4. For the large box outside: Trace and cut five large squares from Meadow Blooms patterned cardstock (I used two blue and two pink for the sides and leaf sprigs for the bottom). Die cut two medium and two small Mirri and vellum butterflies and assemble as before. Refer to the photo to attach a butterfly to each box side. Place a Diamond Sparkle on the body of each.
5. For the medium box: Using the medium blank panel pattern, trace and cut five yellow and four blue Meadow Blooms patterned cardstock squares. Glue the blue squares to the outer panels of the medium box. Place gold straight line Dazzles™ near the upper edges of the yellow squares, trimming the excess. Glue the yellow squares to the five inner box panels.
6. Foam tape the “life is good” cutout to one yellow panel near the top. Foam tape the yellow dragonfly die-cut to another yellow panel near the top. Use sticky tape to attach the medium box to the center of the large box.
7. For the small box: Use the small blank panel pattern to trace and cut nine squares from the Meadow Blooms pink patterned cardstock. Glue four to the outer surfaces of the panels. Glue a square to the inner center square. Place pink straight line Dazzles™ near the upper edges of the last four squares, trimming the excess, then glue them to the four inner side panels.
8. Cut a 1¼"x1¼" Meadow Blooms pink floral square and mat it on dark pink solid cardstock with 1/16" borders. Place silver “celebrate” Dazzles™ on it, then foam tape the square to one of the inner pink panels. Cut 1⅜"x1⅛" Meadow Blooms yellow floral cardstock and mat it on dark pink cardstock with 1/16" borders. Place pink “happy birthday” Dazzles™ on it, then foam tape the sentiment to the center panel, angled as shown.
9. Foam tape three more cutouts to the remaining three inner panels as shown. Use sticky tape to attach the small box inside the medium box.
10. For the lid: Trace and cut a large square from Meadow Blooms flower sprigs cardstock, then mat it on light pink cardstock with 1/16" borders. Glue it centered on the lid top. Cut four 3½"x⅝" Meadow Blooms pink textured cardstocks, then place a pink straight line Dazzles™ near the long lower edge of each, trimming the excess. Glue a strip on each lid side. Follow the package directions to make the lid.
11. Use the blank bow loops as a pattern to cut two loops from dark pink cardstock. Trace and cut the straight bow tails from dark pink cardstock. Create two sets of bow loops, then use sticky tape to stack and glue them together. Attach the bow to the tails, then attach the bow to the lid. Glue the “thinking of you” cutout to a blank tag, then foam tape it extending from under the bow. Create a small pink Mirri butterfly as before and glue it to the bow center. Attach a Diamond Sparkle to the butterfly’s body.
