Birthday Faux Step Card
For the card: Cut 12"x6½" black cardstock and turn horizontally. Score vertically 4¾", 9½", and 10¾" from the right end. Accordion-fold the cardstock on the scores, beginning and ending with a mountain fold. Turn the card with the 1" panel on the front.
For the front: Cut 6 3/8"x1 1/8" Hopscotch red dotted paper and glue centered on the front panel. Cut 5"x5" Hopscotch border paper with the border along the bottom. Mat on black cardstock with 1/16" borders. Wrap a 7" ribbon across it, ½" from the bottom, and glue the ends to the back. Glue the panel’s lower edge to the front, ¼" from the bottom.
Punch out the blue label and balloon die cuts and remove the nibs. Turn the label upside down and glue it to the front panel, tucking the lower edge under the ribbon. Stamp “just for you” on the label’s right end, then foam tape the balloon over the left end. Die cut a small butterfly from Hopscotch yellow plaid paper and its shadow from black cardstock. Glue together, then glue to the label at the upper right.
Cut 6 3/8"x4½" Hopscotch teal dotted paper and glue centered on the third panel. Cut 2½"x1" black cardstock and place horizontally. Score vertically every ½", then crease all the scores in mountain folds. Overlap the two end ½" sections and glue. Place tape on two opposite outside sections of the square “tube.” Attach the tube to the third panel, ½" from the top. Flatten the tube upward, then press the front panel onto the remaining tape on the tube.
Make a 4-loop bow with ribbon and tie the center with white thread. Glue to the first ribbon, 1¼" from the right edge. Glue a small red button to the bow center, then tie a shoestring bow with white thread and glue to the button. Tie a black thread bow and glue to the balloon butterfly, then place a rhinestone on the yellow butterfly.
For the inside: Cut 4½"x4" Hopscotch blue dotted paper and mat on ivory cardstock with 1/16" borders. Glue centered on the inside. Punch out the banner paper tole die cuts and assemble pieces 1, 2, 3, and 4 with foam tape between the layers.
Die cut a large red flower each from Hopscotch red words and orange plaid papers and a large butterfly from yellow plaid paper. Die cut their shadows from black cardstock, then glue the pieces to their shadows. Glue the banner with paper tole piece #6 and the two die cut flowers extending from behind it at the top and upper right. Foam tape piece #7 to the center section.
Glue the die cut butterfly, place rhinestones, and glue the buttons as shown. Tie two black thread bows and knot two black threads together. Glue the bows to two of the buttons, then trim the ends of the knotted threads and glue to the last button.
