Open the card and place it flat on your work surface. Align the 6 ½” template frame with the edges of the card front and trace the shape with a pencil. Cut around the edges of the card front only. Cover the scallop-shaped card front with striped paper, then cover the bottom half with blue/ivory herringbone paper with the black border across the center of the card front. Trim edges evenly with the scallop shape. Sand edges, ink them, then mat on black cardstock leaving a 1/16” border.
Write or computer print “Happy Birthday” on ivory cardstock. Trim to a rectangle, then use the 2” frame on the template to add a scallop shape to the ends. Ink the edges. Add striped paper to the bottom, then sand the edges for a distressed look. Mat on red patterned paper, then sand and ink the edges. Glue centered to the blue/ivory herringbone paper on the card front.
To make the paper flower, cut a spiral (from a 3 ½” round shape) from teal patterned paper, then roll the spiral to the center. Let the spiral unfold slightly, then ink the edges of the spiral. Glue the spiral to the center. Press down on the edges to form petals. Fold a 6” length of ribbon so the ends meet at the center. Glue the ends to the left side of the card above the word plaque. Glue the flower centered over the ribbon.
Inside the card: Cover the inside with blue/ivory herringbone paper. Sand and ink edges. Cut a 6” x 5” red patterned paper rectangle, then sand and ink the edges. Glue centered to the inside. Cut a 6” x ½” strip from the striped sheet and sand/ink the edges, then glue across the red paper, ¼” from the bottom.
Write or computer print message on ivory cardstock, trim, then use the 3” frame on the template to shape the side edges. Ink the edges. Glue a border strip to the left side from remaining herringbone sheet. Mat on blue/ivory herringbone paper, trim, and ink the edges. Fold remaining ribbon and glue beneath left side of matted message. Glue to inside as shown.
