Card front: Place a blank card with the fold on your left.
Cut 6”x7” white cardstock. Lightly draw a 4¾”x6¼” rectangle in the center. Draw a ¾” frame inside of the rectangle. Make a small mark on the center of each side. Use the BG4 pen with the brush tip. Place the tip in the mixing chamber for about 30 seconds. Keep the pen vertical. Begin in one of the corners of the frame, and make sweeping motions with the pen. Back and forth so the lightest color is in the corners, and the darkest color is in the center of each side where you made your mark. (You don’t have to be careful to keep in the lines, because we will cut the outside edge and cover up the inside of the frame later.) Use this same process for each corner of the frame. You will end up with light corners, and more intense color on the sides. Cut around the outside lines only. Glue to the card front, centered.
Cut 4”x5½” white cardstock. Using another 4”x5½” white cardstock and cut the cake shape. Place the die-cut aside, and use the negative piece to trace the outline of the cake in the center of the 4”x5½” cardstock. Lightly trace the cake outline where each layer ends. (You do not have to trace the cake stand.) Start with the top cake layer, and the PR4 pen. Place the brush nib in the mixing chamber for about 30 seconds, holding the pen vertical. Start at the top of the layer, and sweep the pen back and forth until you see color. Continue so that the most intense color is at the bottom of the layer. (Don’t worry about staying in the lines, because you will cut the cake out later.) Go to layer #2 and using the BG4 pen repeat the same process. Use the PR4 pen to color the last layer, using the same process. Once you have the color done, glue the cake die-cut over the color, and cut the colored layer even with the die-cut. Glue to 3 7/8”x5¼” dark turquoise cardstock. Glue centered onto the card front.
Die cut a flower from plum cardstock. Mat the “flower only” with white cardstock, and trim closely next to the die-cut edge. Foam tape the flower to the top of the cake as shown. Place “Happy Birthday” Dazzles™ onto a 2 1/8” dark turquoise cardstock. Mat on white cardstock with 1/8” borders. Foam tape to the bottom right corner 1” from the bottom.
Card inside: Mat a 4” square turquoise cardstock onto plum cardstock with ¼” borders. Glue to the card centered. Place the “celebrate friend” on a 2½”x1/2” dark turquoise cardstock. Mat on white cardstock with 1/8” borders. Glue centered. Die-cut two flowers from plum cardstock. Cut off the leaves, and place the flowers on white cardstock. Trim closely next to the die-cut edge. Foam tape roses onto each side of the sentiment as shown.
